Moveit Chairman Honoured

We are proud to announce that Moveit’s Chairman and principal shareholder Gerry Hatton has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

The Award was made in recognition of Gerry’s national and international role of innovation and leadership in the fields of logistics and materials handling technologies.

His award also recognised more than four decades of work as an industry and individual trainer and mentor as well as his community service work. He has held senior local and national roles in community service and charitable organisations.

In 2000 Gerry became Moveit’s Chairman and principal investor. Since that time he has worked tirelessly to build the company team and move the company to market leadership. He has also worked with Moveit’s highly qualified leading edge computer technologists to oversee the development of the Moveitnet online Freight Management software and related Delivery and Carrier Management technology.

Gerry is no stranger to logistics technology and related business development. In 1966 he founded Colby Handling Systems in his garage with a capital of only $600. The company grew to be the foremost designer and builder of leading edge warehouse, order picking, logistics and materials handling systems.

In 1986 he also founded Colby Packaging Systems which designed and built complete high speed, high technology food powder filling lines which were mainly exported.

Over the years, he and the two Colby Companies pioneered many new technologies that lead to rapid local and international growth and businesses that employed hundreds of Australians and many others in both local and international offices and factories.

Both Gerry and his companies have won wide recognition for excellence in a number of fields including the Exporter of the Year Award and the Australian Manufacturing Award. His patented paperless picking technology won an Australian Design Award. More importantly the systems designed and installed by the companies have dominated Industry awards for more than thirty years.

Gerry has now sold both Colby businesses. The packaging business is now known as as GEC Colby Powder Systems Pty Ltd. and the materials handling business as Dematic. The Colby name lives on through their Storage Equipment business.

Gerry is also Chairman of Rozelle Bay Marine Centre which $80m project will use innovative technology to store up to 670 power boats and become Sydney’s first and Australia’s largest dry boat store.

Gerry is a passionate innovator, educator, businessman and Australian who is now focused on the success of Moveit and its online real time Freight Management software.
